Intercity Buses
An extensive and affordable bus network connecting all major cities and towns. Air-conditioned express buses are available for longer routes.

The most popular way to get around locally. Negotiate the fare before boarding or insist on the meter. Tuk-tuks are available everywhere and add to the local experience.
Taxis & PickMe/Uber
PickMe is Sri Lanka's leading ride-hailing app, similar to Uber. Available in Colombo and major cities. More reliable and transparent pricing than negotiating with tuk-tuks.
Hired Cars with Driver
The most comfortable way to explore Sri Lanka. A hired car with an experienced driver-guide costs around ₹3,000–₹5,000 per day and allows flexible itinerary planning.
Coastal Ferries
Ferry services connect Colombo to Jaffna and operate along the coast. A scenic alternative to road travel for certain routes.
Best Time to Visit
West Coast: December – March ☀️
The best time for the west and south coasts (Colombo, Galle, Mirissa). Dry, sunny weather perfect for beaches, whale watching, and cultural sites. Peak tourist season with higher prices.
East Coast: May – September 🌊
The dry season for the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay). While the southwest monsoon brings rain to the west, the east coast enjoys sunshine and calm seas — perfect for surfing and diving.
Southwest Monsoon: May – September 🌧️
Heavy rains on the west and south coasts. However, the hill country (Kandy, Ella, Nuwara Eliya) remains lush and beautiful. Lower hotel rates and fewer tourists make it good value.
Northeast Monsoon: October – January 🌦️
Rain affects the north and east coasts. The west coast and hill country are generally dry. The Kandy Esala Perahera festival in July/August is one of Asia's most spectacular cultural events.
